David Childress is the individual we have found for our build. We met Dave through our partnership with Mattersville. They have helped us understand a lot more about philanthropy and fundraising, if not for them we would not have had this chance. Dave is a Veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division with United States Army. He connected with the Mattersville organization with their Hero’s and Hybrid’s program. His work with that organization has put him in position to be the director of their Topeka Location, and they currently have some wolfdog hybrid rescues under the care of Dave. My conversations with him have allowed me to understand that he is currently living out of his van and has been doing this for the past 5 years.
We are thrilled to inform you that through the generous donations from our fundraising, a substantial discount at Lowes, and Mattersville fundraising, we have received all of the funds necessary to complete the dry in process for Dave’s Tiny Home. The dry in process means that our students will be able to frame, side, and roof the project. His home is going to be 12x8 with a loft, kitchen nook, bathroom with shower, and it will also have an 8x8 attached bedroom. Our plan is to build the home in sections then take a field trip to put it together. We will need help that day, so if you are interested in helping us as a chaperone please reach out.
Our program is certainly showing these students how math can apply to the real world, and this project is a demonstration of this for several different reasons. They are indeed, more engaged in the content due to the idea that there is a greater purpose and need. Thank you again for your support through donations!
